My interest in radio started with the offshore 'pirate' stations, which broadcast from outside territorial waters between 1964 and 1967. My favourite station during that period was RADIO 390. This station produced the widest variety of easy listening music from light classical through the full musical spectrum to the pop music of the day.

I was an active member of the Free Radio Association, which campaigned for the introduction of legal, land-based commercial radio stations.

When BBC local radio came to Brighton, I co-produced a fortnightly programme called "On Parade" - this was a 20-minute programme about the work of The Boys' Brigade and The Girls' Brigade.
