Join The Team

SHR Team

We are always on the lookout for new people to join the station.

Quick link to download application form

We have a skilled team of broadcasters, producers, ward visitors, music specialists and technicians who all help to make the station work, from visiting the patients on the wards to presenting regular on air shows.

When new members join the organisation we have procedures in place which serve to help you decide if it's something you wish to do long term, and also to provide you with proper training in whichever field you decide to pursue.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not offer work experience placements due to hospital policy and daytime availability of our members.

  • After our Membership Secretary has contacted you by telephone or email, a 'Meet and Greet' with them or a Committee Member will be arranged where they will show you around our Studios and give you an application pack (if not already completed).
  • Once we have received your application we will process your CRB disclosure and check up references.

  • We will then be in touch with you to arrange a suitable day and time to visit the studios and begin your starter training. This consists of 4-6 weeks of compulsory ward visiting and request collecting. After this time you will be invited to begin Stage 2 Training - Presenter Training or Engineer Training - or you may decide to just continue as a Ward Visitor only. Either way, you will have become a full member of the organisation upon receipt of your membership fee.
  • If you decide to do Presenter Training, you will be fully trained both on and off air by one of our experienced presenters in the studio in regular one-to-one training sessions. These normally last around 1 hour but will vary according to the trainer and trainee's needs. Training usually takes between 12-18 weeks, but can often last longer depending on the trainee's progression. Technical Training will be completed with one of our Engineers.
  • Once you have completed your Presenter Training you will be free to broadcast on the radio, under the guidance of your trainer or Programme Controller for a few months, just to make sure you're happy using the live studio and the computer system, then by yourself thereafter.

If you would like to get involved, head over to the Contact Us page and get in touch and we'll arrange with you a suitable time to visit!

You can complete the application form by downloading it from the links below. If you would like to email the form to us please use the .doc version and fill in the spaces on the form. If returning by post, print off either version and send to the address in the footer of the form.
